Upcoming Partnership Meeting

Come join us for the next Tobacco Free Alachua community partnership meeting on June 23. Two key items on the agenda include:

  • Discussion of best practices for tobacco free campus policies at UF, Santa Fe, and in other places young adults spend their time
  • Conversation with the partnership Chair and Vice Chair nominees about their vision for Tobacco Free Alachua in the upcoming 2015-16 fiscal year

Partnership Elections

Tobacco Free Alachua will be holding elections for the 2015-2016 Chair and Vice Chair leadership positions beginning June 24, 2015. Read on to find out about voting eligibility, nominations, and the duties expected of each leadership position.

Voting Eligibility

As stated in our by-laws, to be voting eligible you must have attended at least two Tobacco Free Alachua partnership meetings in the past fiscal year. As mentioned above, our last meeting of the 2014-2015 fiscal year is coming up on June 23, 2015.

Nominations

Before elections begin, you and other partnership members will have the opportunity to nominate individuals for leadership positions. Nominations officially began Friday, June 5 and will remain open until Friday, June 19.

If you would like to nominate a Tobacco Free Alachua member for either Chair or Vice Chair, please submit their name and contact info to TobaccoFreeAlachua@flhealth.gov.

A breakdown of officer responsibilities is below to assist you in considering qualified candidates you may want to nominate.

Duties of the Chair and Vice Chair

With support from FDOH-Alachua staff, our leaders are expected to:

  • Advocate for policies related to tobacco prevention and control
  • Meet quarterly with FDOH-Alachua staff
  • Hold quarterly Tobacco Free Alachua partnership meetings
  • Serve a one-year term

Additional Duties of the Chair

  • Facilitate partnership meetings
  • Determine partnership meeting agenda

Additional Duties of the Vice Chair

  • Act on behalf of the Chair when the Chair is absent or unavailable
  • Assist nomination/election process
  • Oversee by-law revisions
