Happy Holidays Gainesville

CityofGainesvilleThis holiday season prepare to breathe in fresh air. The city of Gainesville recently passed an ordinance in which e-cigarettes can no longer be used in indoor workplaces. On November 20, 2014, the Gainesville City Commission unanimously approved an ordinance prohibiting the use of e-cigarettes in place where smoking is already prohibited by the Florida Clean Indoor Air Act. During this shopping season retail employees and customers will experience clean air as they shop for gifts. Retail employees will not have to distinguish whether a patron has an electronic cigarette or a standard cigarette, because neither will be allowed on the premises since the adoption of Ordinance No. 130679.

The city of Gainesville will follow other Alachua County municipalities in adopting an e-cigarette ordinance. While Archer, Hawthorne, and High Springs, Newberry, and Waldo have chosen to adopt the e-cigarette ordinance originally passed by the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners in late 2013, Gainesville drafted their own ordinance by adapting Alachua County measures. La Crosse, Micanopy, and Alachua are the remaining Alachua County municipalities that have not adopted an e-cigarette ordinance. This holiday season, shop with the knowledge that you do so in clean air.
